Press Release: Ben Litchfield Statement on Dobbs v Jackson SCOTUS Ruling

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Today, Ben Litchfield, candidate for the Virginia State Senate District 27, issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s opinion on Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization:

“A group of unelected activist judges have declared over 167.5 million people do not have the fundamental right to make private medical decisions free from government intrusion overturning 50 years of precedent.

Justices Breyer, Kagan, and Sotomayor have made it clear in their dissent that the effect of this opinion is that “from the very moment of fertilization a woman has no rights to speak of” and that “whatever the exact scope of the coming laws, one result of today’s decision is certain: the curtailment of women’s rights, and of their status as free and equal citizens.”

Governor Youngkin has wasted no time in calling for new laws to do just that: to restrict their rights to reproductive healthcare thus diminishing their status as free and equal citizens.

One vote in the Virginia Senate is all that protects us from becoming the next Mississippi or Texas. One vote. We need to expand our majority in the Virginia Senate by electing more pro-choice Democrats.
We have a duty to stand up for women and their equal right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
